As I mentioned in my last post, I have a few more races coming up before the end of the year. My next race was supposed to be a 5k for the Los Angeles Dodgers foundation.  But a couple weekends ago I got a call from a friend who asked if I had any interest in running Disney half at the end of August. It turns out that he is unable to run due to his work situation. So I ended up saying “heck yeah I want to run Disney!”  So I am running in the Disney half marathon at the end of August.

The good news: I am running my very first Disney event.

The bad news: I am running  my very first Disney event.

OK, I am super, super excited about this turn of events. I have heard nothing but good things about the Disney series of runs (Except from Coach Doris! see below).  I know that they are well organized and friends who have run them say that the support on the course and post race is the best they have experienced. I am looking forward to being a part of it. It truly is an event. They have stations set up with characters and bands that you can stop and get pictures with, and keep with the Disney ‘theme’. This can also be a pitfall. Coach Doris was telling us literally the week before during run club about her experience running the Disney half. it was not a happy story about the happiest place on earth.  As I mentioned before it is an event, with many, many distractions on the course (like characters and bands) which results in people literally stopping in the middle of the course to snap pictures or take in the scene. Not ideal conditions when you are committed to turning in a great result.

I am approaching this run as an event, I want to have fun and perform well. I am not looking to turn in a personal record. I will be one of those people who stop to take pictures,  but I will be respectful of the other runners on the course, showing as good etiquette as possible. I will not be ready as far as training goes but I am going to do as much as possible to prepare for the race.

oh, did I also mention Disney has some pretty freaking awesome Medals?
