Many parents brag about their children’s achievements, how their kid did this or won that. many new dads have and will. Now it is my turn. My child was an airline ROCK STAR!!! The flight to Chicago from Ontario airport was full, so he was literally a lap child, he rode on mommy’s lap at the start and sat in daddy’s lap to finish the flight. He did freaking GREAT on the plane. No crying or fussing as we went up, no crying or fussing on the way down. Now there were a couple of kid-lets on the other side of the plane, a couple rows up that were not such rock stars. We had read that it is good to have him sucking on a pacifier or bottle to help regulate the pressure on their ears. He was asleep with the pacifier in his mouth on the way up and he had it for the descent as well. Throughout the 4 hour flight really only fussed one, and it was because he was tired, wanted to sleep and couldn’t quite get that ‘comfy’ position so it was out of exhaustion and frustration and lasted for less than a minute.
On the way back home from Chicago, the flight was not full and we were allowed to keep his car seat on the plane, and he once again ROCKED IT! again, he got a little fussy once, but did not cry a lot, this time because he was HUNGRY! so he got fed and all was well again in Aisle 18. He slept a lot better than new dad did, or new mom for that matter.
Now we have been told that this is the absolute best time to take him on a longer trip because he is stationary and will sleep. Now will we have the same luck the next time we fly? Probably not and I am OK with that (until we actually fly that is) but for now, I am going to brag about my airline ROCKSTAR!
on the way down the jet way ‘My first airplane ride!!’
After the return flight. ‘I need water!’
